shamrockDeveloping the dream
Kermit Quaintance and his Invesco Company purchase the 300 acres of property bordered by US 41 and CR 951 in 1980.  They named the project Shamrock Country Club and began development of the 18-hole championship golf course, with future plans for 740 dwellings.

Golf CourseA golf course design takes shape
Two years later, the construction not fully completed, a Chicago based group consisting of Vincent Salano, Jim Hannigan and several investors, purchased the development.  They brought in the Packard Design Group, specifically Larry Packard, to put his finishing touches and bring his expertise to the design of the course.  He refined and enhanced the original course design, cutting it through deep pine and cypress forests so that it has the look of being there naturally.  The project name then changed to Eagle Creek Golf and Tennis Club.

Guys playing cardsA community comes to life
In May of 1984, Eagle Creek Golf & Tennis Club was purchased by the Maxxam Group, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange Company.
They renamed the community Eagle Creek Country Club. Harold A. Egan Jr., Ken Venturi and Robert P. Meister Jr. comprise of Eagle Creek’s Executive Management. They create a new company, Eagle Creek Properties, to handle the development of the property, and reduced the number of anticipated dwellings to less than 400.U.S. Open winner, CBS Commentator and world-famous pro, Ken Venturi, partners with the community and becomes VP of Golf Operations. In Golf Week’s 1984 Florida’s Best Courses issue, cited Eagle Creek’s Imminent entrance into Florida’s elite top ten. The editors described the course as “pure”, cut out of heavy pine and cypress forests with a look of having been here forever. The original design and layout of the course by Larry Packard is enhanced by Ken Venturi, with him stating “I came in and spent almost a half million dollars to improve Larry Packard’s foundation. I built up the greens, moved bunkers, moved tees. This course has a lot of my signature on it now. It’s been classified too tough, too tight, and too much penalty. Those things are ingredients in making a golf course great. I’ll put it among the top courses in the country, that’s how high I am on it.” The multi-million dollar Eagle Creek Country Club development is helping to boost the Collier County construction market. The development is expected to employ over 100 people over its construction schedule. The total cost of this 500-residence community is estimated at more than 100 million dollars with a 5-7 year building schedule.
